Revd Peter Knight

Born and bred ( and proud of it!) in Oldham Lancashire where I leaned to speak English in the way God blessed and intended us all to do, sing loud and proud, and play football ( or any sport I had chance to ) with passion.

Grew up and following A levels started work for Halfords as a trainee manager, working all over the North West . I then went to work for Slumberland ( yes, I did test the beds ), and after three years found the perfect job for me with the Schools Library Service. This meant I was working with mainly primary school children, resourcing books and project materials, seeking to develop literacy skills and provision. It really meant telling children stories, introducing teachers to new material and drinking coffee!

Married to Felicity with whom I share two children Aimee and Joshua.

Following training at Hartley Victoria college in Manchester, we were stationed in sunny Blackpool where we spent five years ministering to three Methodist churches, a Football Club ( come on Blackpool!), Chairing a Sure Start Project and supporting a County Primary School.

Other specific areas of ministry included chaplaincy to the rugby world cup and the Commonwealth Games in Manchester , both of which connected with my love of sport and faith.

We moved to Southport in 2003 and settled very quickly into the circuit and schools and churches. A passion for evangelism, engagement, people and fun has always been the centre of faith for me. The Good News of Jesus, His love and Word is the driving force of my ministry and I feel most at home, when, as part of the church I can share this at the heart of the community I find myself among. Never shy to seek new opportunities and think outside routines and activities of the past, seeking to be a part of Gods work for today, yet still holding to God's gifts from the past, I see church as constantly emerging, releasing and healing with integrity to Jesus' offer of love and life for all.
